Akeed - A local television station has recently broadcasted a TV show in which respondents to a poll in one of its sections used terms that disrespected women. Media specialists consider such an act as a violation of journalistic ethics.

The episode included a section in which a televised poll was conducted, where respondents referred to women in a negative and offensive manner.

Akeed refrains from sharing links to the said episode, to avoid the promotion of the section containing professional violations.

Commenting on the incident, specialist in media ethics and legislation, Yihya Shuqeir, told Akeed that the content of that section serves no purpose other than filling a void in the broadcasting.

He added that broadcasting the offensive section, which insulted women, is considered a violation of professional ethics.

One of the respondents to the survey used derogatory language towards women, such as referring to marriage and women as “awful”, according to the media expert.

Other respondents to the poll expressed views that work to ferment a negative view of women, in contradiction with strategies that aim to uplift women.

Akeed highlights the importance of adhering to professional, ethical, and legal standards when producing content that tackles social issues, including respecting women, refraining from insulting them, and encouraging sophisticated discourse when discussing issues of high importance to the audience.
